G.O.M
Character Desing
Prop Desing
G.O.M. is the acronym for God’s Own Medicine, a term historically used to refer to opium and its derivatives.
I designed this character during my intensive character design workshop.
The concept behind it was to create a visual representation of the poppy flower and its medicinal properties.
The character wields a unique spear featuring a botafumeiro. Inside, Papaver somniferum (opium poppy) burns, releasing alkaloids such as morphine and codeine.
For the visual design, I drew direct inspiration from the colors of the poppy flower, which serves as the character’s main conceptual reference. Because of this, I chose light, flowing fabrics that evoke the delicacy and movement of its petals.
At the same time, I wanted to incorporate a subtly court jester-inspired aesthetic, referencing the recreational and escapist associations linked to opium, a central element in the character’s concept. Details such as the neck ornament and the hat reinforce this idea, while the hat itself also resembles a sleeping cap, symbolically connecting to the narcolepsy that defines the character.
